So children in your care can breathe, eat, sleep and thrive

With the ‘precision medicine’ model adopted and accepted, there has never been a more important time for medical, dental and allied health professionals to collaborate in teams, to deliver individualised healthcare solutions to those in our care.

Good breathing, eating, and sleeping practices are not just fundamental but pivotal for the health, growth, and happiness of children. What binds these vital functions together is the concept of airway 'patency.' Poor airway patency can have a cascading effect on many aspects of children’s health and development – from growth and learning to memory, behaviour, emotional regulation, and even speech-language development.

Achieving optimal airway health isn't just about the fact that we breathe, eat, and sleep, but rather how we do it. As health professionals, when a child's airway isn't functioning at its best, we can look into the shared anatomy and physiology that supports them for signs and symptoms. These indicators are easy to see because they're quite literally 'in our face' every time we see a patient.

Health professionals often inquire, "How do we learn from you?" or "Is your recent medical conference lecture available online?" The answer is yes, it is! Another common question is, "Can't you provide exercises for parents to do at home?" Absolutely, but exercises are just the beginning.  Our primary task is to pinpoint the exact cause of an airway problem, considering both structure and function, as well as various contributing factors like underlying medical or dental conditions, lifestyle and environment.

At Well Spoken, we've curated a range of courses with an early intervention focus, aiming to promote airway health and address function disorders in the upper airway. Tailored to specific age groups, these courses not only address how to manage communication and swallowing disorders but also how to optimise the growth and development of the face and jaws during those crucial preschool years. Among them is Mini-Myo – a favourite among both kids and their parents!

We believe that addressing these issues while they are still 'small' can create a 'big' difference in the quality of children's daily lives and their future. Ensure the children in your care are on the path to being Airway Fit 4 Life by exploring our upcoming online courses.
